We set out to walk in the Thousand Palms reserve today, knowing it was going to be hot before we were done. Then, on the spur of the moment we realized, when looking at the mountains around us, that there could possibly be snow in Joshua Tree! As if we needed more snow after the 12 inches in North Vancouver, we turned left and headed for the park. It is a long drive and we figured it would all be melted by the time we got there forgetting that the top of the Mohave Desert was 5000 feet! Sure enough we were treated to the unusual vision of Joshua Trees in snow! It was 8 degrees at the top so only snow in the shadows and at the very top remained but it was enough to give us an idea of the strange beauty of winter in Joshua Tree.
