I love these round prickly cushions that are now filling many boulevards and gardens here in Palm Desert. It is a positive thing we've noticed this trip. Many of the medians and boulevards (including all of them in our development) have been converted from thirsty grass and incongruous geraniums to heat-loving, more water-wise succulents.
We made a trip to Sunnylands today. This 200 acre property was built as a winter getaway in the 60's by the Annenberg's, philanthropists who made a LOT of money from The Daily Racing Form, TV Guide and Seventeen magazine, along with other media later sold to the Rupert Murdoch for 3.2 billion dollars. The Annenberg's served as ambassadors and entertained presidents and world leaders for forty years. The beautiful property has now been placed in trust and the grounds are open to the public.
We plan to return a couple of times a week for walks in the garden as I covet the succulents.
